Rayong is located on Thailand's eastern seaboard, about 180 kilometers from Bangkok. Covering an area of 3552 square kilometers and 100 kilometers of beach along the Gulf of Thailand, Rayong has plenty to offer for all visitors. The Samet Marine National Park is located in Rayong province and consists of 10 islands with clear waters and white sandy beaches. Rayong is divided into the 5 districts of Muang Rayong, Klaneg, Ban Khai, Pluak Daeng, Bang Chang, and the sub-district of Wang Chan. The population of Rayong province is around 420,000 people. Today Rayong is one of Thailand's premiere tourist destination and industrial center with U-tapao airport, Laem Chabang and Map Ta Phut Ports.

Getting there:

From Bangkok take the #3 Highway or the new Bangkok-Chonburi motorway and the #36 Highway. Traveling time is approximately 2.5 hours. You can also take a bus from the Ekamai bus terminal in eastern Bangkok to Rayong's bus terminal in the center of town.

Statue of Sunthorn Phu

The statue of Sunthorn Phu is located in the village of Bang Krum, the birth place of Sunthorn Phu's father. There is a well-kept memorial park at the house site along with the statue of the poet in a seated position on a small hill overlooking an ornamental pond. Sunthorn Phu was a great poet of the Rattanakosin Era and has been praised by UNESCO as an eminent classical poet of the world.

Sobha Botanical Gardens

Located on Phe road in Muang district, the Sobha Botanical Garden is the home to 3 classical Thai houses and a Thai sala, each of which are over a 100 years old. There is also a number of antique objects and other objects of art on display in the houses.
